Well here it is Sunday again, and boy what a week it has been. Aidan has been in (and out of) hospital with a suspected heart attack! Thanks goodness the angiogram was clear, and they put his chest pain and high enzyme levels down to the gastric bug he had last weekend. And I can't believe it, but my baby girl has turned 11! Oh my...where has that time gone? We've had a small birthday party at home in amongst all the chaos. We're so lucky we didn't end up going away as planned. I don't think I could have coped with it all, and being away from home.

So today's photo represents my favourite Sunday thing to do. There's nothing better than a sleep-in, and waking up to my favourtie cappuccino with skim milk and the sunday paper to read.

I'm a day late posting this week. We're still in the midst of summer school holidays, and life is busy, busy, busy! Not to mention that Aidan has been sick since Saturday morning. Poor thing headed to the doctors today. Nothing major is wrong, but he just needs to take things easy for the next few days.

So our Sunday was spent at home again. This picture is of our cat Tigger. He's a gorgeous old man. Nearly 16 years old now! He's only got three legs, but manages really well. And it's very rare to see him inside, but it's been a bit cold and windy, so a nice cuddle on the arm of the lounge is nice on a day like that.

Holy witchcraft and wizardry! LOL! Aidan and Em went to see the Harry Potter exhibition at the Powerhouse today, with Em's friend Amelia and her dad. Long, long queues, but a great exhibition is how they described it!

I stayed home to catch up some long overdue washing, ironing and a general clean-up. I must say, I've let things slip over the Christmas hols.

Anyway, I snapped this cute pic of my dog, Cody, while I was taking a break. He's such a sooky dog, has to be right with you all the time. He's at my feet if I'm walking around, and if I sit down, he's either sitting 'on' my feet, or right beside me on the couch. So here he is on the couch. Just look at that face.

One blog I really love, that I keep going back to time and time again is Simple As That by Rebecca Cooper. I love her style, and her gorgeous photos, and she is the author of one of the very first scrapbooking books I ever purchased, Real.Life.Scrapbooking.

Anyway, she has a challenge every week called Simple Things Sunday, which is about capturing and celebrating the simple things that have made you smile through the week. It's all about the photos, and I've decided to join in.

So here is my first Simple Things Sunday post. After a big NYE celebration, we spent a quiet day at home today. Emma wanted to play board games. It's such a simple way to pass the time, and spend some time together.

As one year comes to a close, another one is about to start!

2011 hasn't been a fantastic year for us as a family! I would say that we've just gone through the motions really. Em in particular has had a difficult year, with some nasty emotional bullying happening at school, she has had a planter wart on her foot that has taken 9 months to get rid of, and has had a hard time just dealing with some growing-up things like friendship shuffles and finding her place in the group. But I have good feelings about 2012! It's going to be a good positive year for us! I hope so anyway!

I've chosen my significant word for 2012, deciding on ........

CHOICE

Most of the time I tend to rush into decisions around my food choices, family choices, financial choices, life choices. I figure that by having this word as a focus word, it will help me to think about the choices I make, before regretting the choice after the event.

I'm really keen to do some sort of project 365 or 52 this year, but I don't necessarily want to be tied down to having to take a photo everyday, or even scrapping about it every week. I've started another blog called My Everyday to keep track of things. I think this project is going to evolve over the months ahead, into what I feel comfortable with.

We're heading off shortly to go and watch the fireworks at Sydney Harbour with millions of others! It's something that Emma is excited about, and secretly, I'm quite looking forward to it too!

So as the year comes to a close, I wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year, and here's to a fantastic 2012!

I've been offline for a while!

But gosh...I didn't realise it was nearly a month.

Sometime in October, we started having issues with our Internet Service Provider. Page uploads were getting slower and slower, and file downloading was becoming impossible....even though we were on an unlimited plan and had done all the usual things like clearing our cache and history etc! We'd been with the same company for over 11 years, and had been very happy with them, but decided it was time for a change!

So we bit the bullet, and have moved to Optus! It's taken a while to get everything switched over, but so far, so good! Everything is working great. The speed is fantastic, and their customer service has been second to none! So if you are looking for a recommendation, you've got it!

I'll be back to my Thirty Days of me soon. And I hope to have a mini kit for you to download very soon too! Stay posted.

Day 10 – A photo of your favourite place to eat.

We don't go out for meals all that often, although we do like Thai takeaway on a Friday night after work. One of my favourite places to eat locally is a cafe called Rashay's on the highway at Liverpool. It has a great menu - the salt & pepper squid is to die for - and I love the decor.

But my absolutely favourite place to go if we are celebrating something special is Doyles on the Beach at Watsons Bay. It's pretty pricey, but the seafood is the best. And I love the view! Just look at the seafood....yum!

Day 9 – A photo of the item you last purchased.
Ha ha. I've been shopping today, but all I bought was some shopping from Coles (I'm sure you don't want to see that!) and these new school shoes for Em, as she goes back to school tomorrow, and her old shoes have seen better days!

I'm sure you'd much rather see a photo of my recent purchase for myself. I bought myself this gorgeous Cath Kidston daybag a little earlier this week.

I've wanted one of these oilcloth bags ever since I saw them in the Cath Kidston store in Kingston in the UK, when we on holidays a couple of years ago. But alas, I thought they were a little expensive. I managed to pick this one up on ebay at a steal. I just have to be patient now as it wings it's way to Australia via Royal Mail, (and a Qantas plane I suppose!)

Day 7 – Your dream wedding

I think I had my dream wedding some 20 years ago! It was simple, elegant, and filled with all the people I loved at the time! It was a real family affair, with my girlfriend's dad marrying us in the church that I had basically grown up in! The reception was in an old country house!

If I could do it all again, I really don't think I'd change very much, except to bring everything up-to-date style wise.

And I think way to much money is spent these days on weddings. As long as you are marrying the person of your dreams, one who will be with you through thick and thin, and love you just as much in 20 years or 50 years time, is really all that matters! I'm glad to say that I've married a keeper! And we're still in love as much today, as we were all those years ago when we married! Ahhhhhh....sweet love!

Day 6 – A photo of an animal you’d love to keep as a pet.

I mean seriously! Who wouldn't want this most gorgeous and funny creature as a pet.

They stand tall, look around constantly wanting to protect you from enemies. And just look at this face! Isn't it just the cutest! The deep eyes, button nose and such a smiley face....I'm sure it would make me smile and laugh all day.

So do you know what it is? It's a meerkat! All the way from Africa!

I somehow don't think a meerkat would get on very well with the pets we do have though! Cody, our dog, would chase it and want to play with it. And tigger the cat, would probably want to eat it!

That's our Cody. He doesn't look that much different from the meerkat really! LOL!

Day 5 - A photo of yourself two years ago.

You know, it was really hard for me to find a photo of myself taken 2 years ago. I think I found only two that I would call 'suitable'. How sad is that? I'm always on the other side of the camera, by choice! But I really must do something about this phobia I have, otherwise, when I'm gone...no-one will remember what I looked like!

I don't mind this picture taken in May 2009. Aidan and I were on a date night, and mum & dad had come over to look after Emma. My hair was a nice length (and not so grey), and I had my face on! LOL!

Day 4 - Your favourite photo of your best friend.

I love this photo of my girlfriend Melissa. (She'll probably kill me for posting it...LOL!) She looks so happy and relaxed. It was her 40th birthday celebration at her house earlier this year, and we were sitting around chatting and drinking. The kids were running riot, as usual!

We've been friends for 10 years, and met at ante-natal classes when we were pregnant with our girls. We had an instant bond, and knew that of all the girls in the mother's group, we would maintain a strong friendship. It turned out that our girls were born on the exact same day, just 3 hours apart, which is amazing seeing my Em wasn't actually due for another 2 weeks.

Mel and I share the same ideals, we can chat about anything, and both know that we will be there for each other no matter what! I love that she has come into my life, and that I have her as such a special friend!

Day 3 - Your idea of the perfect first date.

Boy...it's been some years since my last actual first date! About 21 years in fact! And it was with my husband!

It was a warm spring day in London, and we met up with a friend for a picnic lunch by the river in London. After lunch we took a walk along the Kings Road in Chelsea, just window shopping and enjoying the sunny weather and the time spent together. The date finished with a long passionate kiss, by the car, as we were heading off on our separate ways!

Even after all these years, it's still pretty much the perfect date to me.

Day 2 - A photo of something you ate today.

So I missed the post on Sunday, as I was away in Canberra..... but I did remember to take the picture! So I'm playing catchup here!

Here's what I had for lunch! I know it's really something you would have as an afternoon treat, but we had a late breakfast, and didn't sit down to have lunch until a little after three. By that stage pretty much all of the lunch foods were gone. So this was the only thing on the menu that appealed.

Scones with jam and cream! YUM! I very rarely have it, but boy it's good when I do!

So here we are at the first of October, and I start on my journey of 30 days of blogging about me. Me,me,me,me,me....LOL!

Day 1 -A photo of yourself and a description of how your day was...

The photo
I really don't like looking at photos of myself. I'm very self critical, and because I am carrying too much weight at the moment, I always feel like all you can see is the chins! LOL! I took this picture as I was heading out the house today, heading to the shops. I didn't have the flash on, and I was inside...so my skin is looking very blotchy. There's no touch-ups....just little old me, complete with grey hairs and wrinkles.

About today
We had a late night last night, and so I managed to get a sleep-in this morning. YAY! Aidan had to pop out to the chemist, so he bought me a large cappuccino to get the day started. Gotta love a man who knows to buy the girl a coffee! Em is just enjoying being back home after her stay at nanna and pa's. It's amazing, you would think she'd been away for weeks. We're heading off to Canberra tomorrow for a short break during the holidays, and to see The Floriade! It's something we've wanted to do for years, and have never managed to be able to get the timing right, until now! So I've been doing some washing, and getting the bags packed ready to go! Had to pop out this afternoon to buy some new joggers. Mine had seen better days, and if I'm going to be doing all that walking around Canberra, I need something comfortable for my feet. Neighbours popped in for afternoon tea. They are looking after Cody and Tigger while we are away! Other than that, it will be a reasonably early night, ready for an early departure in the morning!

Well I made it to the end of September. Go me! It's been a fun journey to go through the month being more aware of what's going on around me, and thinking more about my environment and circumstances. I think it's made a lasting change on my outlook, that I'll take with me into the years to come.

Today I love that Em came home from being with mum and dad for 2 nights, and she really missed me! She's been all cuddly, wanting to be with me every minute. So sweet!

And so, my last lesson for the month is that absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

And so we're nearing the end of the month and the journey to learn something new everyday!

I got stuck at work late tonight, dealing with a problem that shouldn't have happened. By the time I got home, I really didn't feel like doing anything, or even having dinner. Luckily with Em being away, it didn't matter whether I cooked or not. Aidan was able to look after himself!

Today I learnt that every once in a while it is nice to not have to be responsible for anyone but me!

We're right in the middle of school holidays, and I have to work tomorrow and Friday, so Emma has gone to stay with my parents for a couple of nights. When I picked Aidan up from the station tonight, he said, let's go out for dinner! It was a nice surprise!

I'm so excited. I use my iphone all the time, but have never been all that happy about the photo's I take with it. Well, I've found a photography class that teaches you how to use your iphone camera to take awesome and artistic shots.

It's been a miserable cold Sunday in Sydney again today. We've had a lovely sleep in, I've read the papers over my cereal and a warm cup of cappuccino, and this afternoon we've played family games on the Wii and Playstation. It's just been one of those lovely relaxing days.

Today I learnt that I need to take more time out to just relax and enjoy family time together.

I've had an incredibly long day at work today. Walked in the door a little after eight, and still had to get dinner on the table!

So we're having a foosball competition at work! Now, I'm not really a foosball sort of girl, but we have basically been told we don't have a choice. I've never played before, and so today I went and had a practice with some of the boys before the competition actually starts. Well turns out I am quite good at it. I managed to stop 4 goals, and set up a couple of goals for my colleague. And I actually had some fun while playing. Which leads me to today's lesson.

Today I learnt, don't have regrets! Participate in things which are outside your comfort zone. You never know how much you might enjoy yourself!

I spent the day going through some old magazines and books, and having a massive purge of the ones I no longer want or need. It's amazing how cathartic such a simple thing is.

We've had a nice family day out today, shopping for a new oven and a sofa bed for the spare room. We had no luck on either, I'm sad to say! I had to bribe Emma to come by promising a visit to Krispy Kreme Donuts which is her favourite. But they're not mine I'm afraid! They look nice and tasty when they are in the box, but I find them incredibly sickly, to the point of making me want to throw up! Still, every time I take her, she convinces me that I need to have one! Today's lesson is a good reminder not to be swayed again!

Today I learnt that you should never be talked in to doing something, when you know the outcome will not make you feel good! LOL!

Oh My Goodness! What an awesome day in Sydney today! Spring has really arrived, with temps up around 28 degrees where I live! It really makes me feel good when the weather is nice.

We've been to the airport today to wish our friends a bon voyage on their big family holiday to Europe. It's the first time they have travelled such a long way as a family, and I think I was just as excited as them. They are travelling to Singapore, Rome, Florence, Venice, Paris, Euro Disney, London and Bangkok on the way home - a 4 week adventure that I wish I was going on with them! Maybe next time.

Today I am reminded that it is only 1 week until the next school holiday break. We all need it so much. We are thinking of taking a quick trip to Canberra to see the Floriade. But even if we don't, just being able to sleep in, catch up and slow down will be so nice! Taking a break is needed to recharge the batteries!

I found out today that one of my favourite designers and friend is giving up designing to concentrate on her family, and to be able to get time back to concentrate on what pleases her most...scrapping. And that led me to today's lesson.

Today I learnt, that sometimes we just have to take a step back and review what's happening in life. Don't be afraid to make choices based on what pleases you, rather than what others think is right.

Goodness me....half way through the month, and still going strong. When I signed on for this class I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm amazed that when you actually focus on what is happening in your life and what is going on around you during the day, it is amazing at the lessons you learn. Even the simple things give you an opportunity to learn. Some lessons are new, some are reminders of things you've forgotten, or put to the back of your mind. This course has made me listen more, and I am trying to take more time to reflect and think about things. I am certainly more observant.

So on to today's lesson. Today I learnt that life really is full of new learning experiences. You just have to be open to learning.!

I've got a new banner! Nice, isn't it! Thanks Shimelle.

Today I was filled with happiness for my daughter! She's had a really rough year! There has been bullying at school (which finally seems to be settling down), and she's had a planter wart on her foot since March that just won't go away...despite serious actions by both the doctor and podiatrist. Add to that the usual bouts of colds and Asthma and it's a year I'm looking forward to being behind us in many ways!

I had been invited to her school assembly to watch her being presented with her Silver Badge for good behaviour! They need to get 25 ticks on their behaviour card to move from Green to Bronze, and another 25 ticks to move from Bronze to Silver, so she has done well to make silver by September, as ticks are quite hard to come by.

Anyway, as I arrived, she was already up on the stage being presented with another surprise award. It was the class merit award for being a good role model. How awesome is that!

And when she came home from school, she told me she has been nominated as a prefect for next year! WOW....three good news stories in one day! I'm just so delighted for her. It's the boost she has needed for a long time.

Today's I learnt that watching my daughter's pride in her achievements is worth more than anything in the world.

Today I learnt that a true friend doesn't care when you're broke, being a bitch, what you weigh, if you don't see them for months, if your house is a mess, what you drive, about your past, or if your family is filled with crazy people. Your conversations pick up where they left off, even if they have been years apart. They love you ... for who you are.

I caught up with a special friend today for coffee. She is a 2 times survivor of breast cancer, and is now dealing with the cancer she has in her liver, bones and lungs. She is not in remission, but the cancer that looked like it would take her life about a year ago, has stopped growing, and is buying her some additional time.

As a young mum of 2 growing boys, and godmother to my own daughter, I have watched her deal with insurmountable pain, and the threat that her young life will be cut short! Yet, she is strong, has a wonderful sense of humour, and is one of the most positive people I know. I love her dearly, and seeing her today reminded me of a super important lesson.

No matter what life throws at you, and how bad things may be, remain strong and positive. There is always someone who is suffering and dealing with more than you!

Today I learnt that no matter how many years pass, I will remember 11.09.01 just like it was yesterday. May those who lost their lives RIP. May the tragedies of that day never, ever happen again!

We've had the most awful day weather-wise in Sydney today. It's September, yet today was more like the middle of winter. I think the temperature got to only 15 degrees...and we've all been back in our winter clothes. We've had soup for lunch, and jacket potatoes for dinner....that gives you an idea of how cold it is. It's been one of those days to stay inside, and do absolutely nothing! But we've had fun just being together.

Today I learnt that it is OK just to have fun hanging around at home...enjoying each other's company. Watching movies and playing games. And that a tickle and a good belly laugh is the BEST!

Today I am thankful for such awesome neighbours.

In fact we are good neighbours to each other! So rare these days. They come in for coffee/tea nearly every Saturday. They let us borrow their car when we need to. We look after each other's dogs when we're out. They give us help on the computer. We lend them gardening tools. They offer advice...even when it's not wanted...LOL! We're so very lucky to have each other!

Today I learnt that a bit of bling is good for a girl's soul!

So I posted yesterday that the teachers at Em's school were striking today. I had no-one to look after her, so I've taken the day off work. We had to go to the shops to pick up some things, and as we walked past Diva (one of Em's favourite stores), she convinced me to let her buy a BFF necklace for her to share with her friend Abbey! It took her ages to choose just the right one, but she settled on a peace sign with lots of bling! Needless to say, it hasn't been off her neck, and she tells me she just LOVES it!

So today was my first work day of this week. I work a 5 day fortnight - every Thursday/Friday, and second Wednesday! I love that I get to work part-time. Anyway, the school teachers in NSW have announced they are going out on strike action tomorrow - which of course is a work day. The kindness of my boss is today's lesson - she really blew me away!

Today I learnt that it feels really special when loyalty is repaid with flexibility!

It's a beautiful day in Sydney today, and I've had the pleasure of watching my daughter perform in her school Drama performance at the South West Combined School Concert. I was so proud of her, as she was very nervous leaving the house this morning. She spoke slowly, and I could hear every word.

But now to my LSNED for today.

Today I learnt, that I don't understand how people can be so self absorbed. I'm always interested enough to find out how others are doing. Why for once can't people reciprocate, and be interested in how I and my family are doing. Is it too much to expect?

Day 5 of LSNED, and still going strong. Mind you, I still have to do my album. But I'm still thinking about that...LOL!

Today I learnt, that I am really liking the new Blogger interface! I changed over at the beginning of LSNED, as I was having huge problems with the old version. So far, this new interface is very intuitive, and doesn't seem to have as many bugs as the old version. Let's hope it continues!

It's Fathers Day today here in Australia. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, including my dad and my husband who is a fantastic father.

Today I learned that my father really does have the patience of job to put up with my mum. LOL!
But they've been married for over 50 years, so that's got to count for something!

I love mum madly, but boy...she has a mind of her own, and will let everyone know (with a look or word) when they don't live up to her expectation!

So dad, I take my hat off to you! You are so patient, and kind, and I love you to bits!

So I venture off into the 1st day of my class - Learn Something New Everyday (see post below if you need an explanation.

For those of you who know me, I'm a coffee addict! I usually have at least 2 cappuccino a day...usually three!

But today I learnt that I can actually survive on just one cup of coffee, without feeling any withdrawal! And it doesn't even need to be a large cup. LOL!

It's Spring, I'm Ready to Learn Something New...and a Freebie!

Spring is my very favourite time of the year. The blossoms are sprouting, the birds are singing, the days are getting warmer - it's just such a pleasant time...it makes you feel good to be alive!

This year, to mark the arrival of Spring, I've decided to take a course and learn something new! I've just discovered Shimelle Laine. Well, not really discovered, as I'd heard her name when I was a paper scrapper. But recently I've discovered some of the online classes she has, and I'm hooked.

Learn Something New Everyday is the course I've signed up for. The class encourages you to take each day as it comes and find at least one thing in every day that can teach you something. Something big, something small, something funny, something solemn. Some days you might learn a random fact and others might teach you something about patience, determination or reflection. Every day is a new opportunity, and we track it all through things we love: some photographs, a bit of writing and as much pretty paper as we fancy.

Doesn't it sound fun! So that's my focus for September. I'm going to learn something new everyday, and I plan on posting here to keep track of things.

And for something completely different, I've decided to start designing! I'm going to call myself Digi.Girl.Designs by Di Basnett. As I start out and learn lots about designing, I'm going to rely on you guys to be my guinea pigs. I'll be posting lots of freebies here on the blog, and I'd love for you to download and try out my products. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Still Alive ...

Boy. It's been a while. No excuse other than life has been busy....and I guess that's the way you want it, isn't it!

Weather has turned decidedly cold, too cold for Sydney, but it's great weather to be inside and catch up on all those chores that need to be done.

So what has been happening in the last few months:

I've had a birthday, and celebrated with some special friends
I've been featured in Scrapbooking Memories - Portrait of a Digi Scrapper (Vol13.No7)
I've had 3 more layouts published
Aidan has been volunteering at AbbaWorld at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney
He has also been to Bangkok to catch up with some old school friends
Emma has started playing Netball on the weekends. She loves it, and won Player of the Week 2 weeks ago
She's been busy with friends, playdays, sleepovers...having lots of fun!

I'm in clean-out mode, and am trying madly to clear out cupboards and wardrobes, and generally de-clutter! Both Aidan and Em are hoarders! I used to be, but 3 in the one family is just way too much! My word this year is Simplify...and I see de-cluttering as a major part of that. It's June, so I think by the end of the year I should just about have got through everything I need to.

30 Days of Blogging - Day 13, 14 & 15

Boy...I can't believe it's been 3 weeks since I've blogged, and in that time we have seen another awful natural disaster in the world! I find all this devastion quite disturbing. My heart aches for all those who have lost life, their loved ones, their homes, their work.....I just can't quite comprehend it all. Pictures like this just break my heart.

What I am sure of through, is that all these earthquakes and tsunami's are building up, and it feels like there is going to be a HUGE, MASSIVE disaster in the not too distant future! Let's hope that I am wrong.

Day 13 - so today I'm meant to talk about my goals. I've had my time of chasing big career goals and things like that. Today my goals are a lot simpler. And that in fact is my word of the 2011...SIMPLIFY! So, firstly I want my family to be healthy and happy and have lots of fun together. We pretty much are, so I hope it stays that way...LOL! I want to become fitter and thinner....but fitter first and foremost! I would like to be able to afford to send our daughter to private school. We would like to move further out of the city....so we can live a less chaotic life! And you know...that's pretty much it for now!

Day 14 - share a picture I love. There are so many, but I love this family photo that was taken when we on holiday in the UK last year. The picture was taken in March 2010, at Warwick Castle.

Day 15 - share a bible verse! I like this verse, as I believe if everyone lived their life like this...irrespective of faith or belief, the world would be a much better place.

A Day of Contrasts

Boy...what a day.

This morning both of the Superliners - the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth - arrived in Sydney Harbour. It looked quite a sight.

Then at around 10.50am Sydney time, an earthquake measuring 6.3 hit Christchurch in New Zealand. The devastion is incredible.

Talk about a contrast of the extremes!

Hmmmm....what I Believe. Very philosophical!

I believe things happen for a reason.

30 Days of Blogging - Day 9, 10 & 11

I'm playing catchup, so I've got 3 days of posts today.

Day 9 is to share a picture of your friends. I really don't know if I have a picture of all my friends together. My friends are from all different circles, and while they have all met each other, they don't all socialise together.

And to be quite honest, I don't have a huge number of friends. I have lots of acquaintances who I see regularly......but I can probably count my true 'friends' on one hand.

I found this photo of my best friend and I, and by the look of the photo I'd say we were around 14 or 15 when it was taken. (I'm the one on the right...with the dark hair). We met at Sunday School, and have been friends for around 40 years! How awesome is that! We don't see each other very regularly these days, but we when we do, it's just like we saw each other yesterday. We just pick up where we left off last time. I guess that's the definition of a true friend.

My Day 10 post is to talk about something I'm afraid of. Well, I'm not really sure what I'm afraid of. I don't like bugs and snakes and cockraches, but I wouldn't say I'm afraid of them. I guess one thing that comes to mind is not being around for my daughter. As an older mum, it does cross my mind from time to time, that when Em is 20, I'll be 60! I'm not afraid of dying, but we do have a family history of dying young. I do hope that I'm around long enough to see Em settled with her own family to care for, and to care for her!

Day 11 is all about my favourite TV shows. That's easy. I am a reality TV junkie.

Today's post is about my travels.

I feel so lucky that I have been able to travel to the most amazing places in the world. That's one of the perks of working for an airline, I guess! I have travelled to every continent, and have seen some incredible sights, and met some absolutely fantastic people. It's hard to pick just one place that is special to me.

But if I had to narrow it down, then I think the UK would probably one of the most memorable places I have travelled to. I actually lived in the UK for nearly 5 years, and it's where I met my husband....so it has a special place in my heart.

Wherever you've travelled, be it near of far....I hope you've been able to soak up the magic of the place.

Happy Valentines Day! I was surprised in such a nice way this morning with my daughter bringing me breakfast in bed. I thought it was really sweet! We are heading off to dinner tonight as a family, so that will be special.

So I'm up to day 6, and today I have to share a picture of something that makes me happy. WOW...hard to pick just one.

I totally adore this series of pictures of my daughter, taken in October 2005. She was 4-1/2, and I just love how the photographer has captured all of the different emotions she showed at that age. Needless to say, she loved having her photo taken and was quite a poser back then.

The picture takes pride of place on our lounge room wall, and it just make me smile everytime I walk past it. I wish I had the negatives, so that I could scrap some of the individual photos.

30 Days of Blogging - Day 4

Boy...I totally lost all of last week. Em went back to school, and with the busy-ness of that, all the scrapping deadlines I had and getting back into some semblance of a routine, the week just got away from me.

But I'm back with Day 4 which is about my parents.

What can I say. I love them dearly! They have always there for me, have supported me through every decision I've ever had to make. They are a true example of giving their undying love and devotion to another human being!

30 Days of Blogging - Day 2 & 3

For Day 2 I have to explain the meaning behind my blog name. It's pretty self explanatory really, I blog about my life, my loves and my scrapping. I added the catch line - just the way I see it, as sometimes my look on these is rather quirky!

And for Day 3 I'm blogging about my first love. WOW...that takes me back a number of years! I was still at school actually. I fell in love with the guy of my dreams - tall, dark, and very handsome. He was one of the guys in my youth group at church. We had an awesome relationship for around 8 years, and I thought he was going to be the one I spent the rest of my life with. My family loved him, we were constantly together, had so much in common and it was just expected that we would get engaged and be married. We'd already bought some land together, and were planning for our future. But sadly that wasn't to be. He fell in love with someone else, and our relationship fell apart. It took many, many, many years for me to get over it. We don't have contact today, and I often wonder what he's done with his life, and whether he married the 'other' girl. I don't think you ever forget your first love!

But life moves on, and once I could reflect impartially, I realise how wrong my life would have turned out! I wouldn't have had all the wonderful opportunities that have come my way. I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason, and the course that my life has taken is exactly the way it should be. I can't imagine my life any other way. While my husband wasn't my first love, he is definitely my real love!

I'll be back tomorrow with a couple more days and then I'll nearly be caught up with the rest of the girls.

OK...so here's where I start....Day1 I have to tell a bit about me, add a recent picture and tell 15 interesting facts.

A bit about me. Well I'm Di (was born Diane...but no-one calls me that these days). I live in Sydney with my husband Aidan, and we have a 10yr old daughter Emma. I'm known as scrappy*di around digiland. And here's a recent picture

And here's my 15 interesting facts. Well, I'm not sure that they're that interesting...but they are facts....lol!

I met my husband in the UK. I'd moved to London to study Drama, but got a transfer to Qantas up there so I had an income to support myself. He was working there, and we became freinds. Friendship turned to romance, and the rest as they say is history.
I'm seriously addicted to reality TV. Amazing Race is probably my fave. But I love Idol, Masterchef, Escape to the Country, The Mole (when it was on)
I love soppy, girly, chick-flicks. Love Actually is one of my all time favourite movies, along with Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Yes...I'm an Audrey Hepburn fan too!
I'm addicted to coffee! But I am seriously trying to cut back this year.
Chocolate is my friend! But I am seriously trying to cut back this year. Do you see a pattern happening here...LOL!
My favourite colour is pink.
I work part-time for Qantas Airways, working out the airfares to charge between Europe & Australia and Africa & Australia. It's the best job I've had in a long time.
I love most genres of music and can often be heard singing at the top of my voice.
I adore being a mum, and always wanted to have a large family...but life doesn't always turn out as you plan. We have one gorgeous princess who came into our lives quite unexpectedly after 9 years of infertility and much heartache!
I have one brother who is 7 years younger than me. So I grew up as an only child for the formative years of my life. I definitely have 'only child' tendancies...LOL!
I want to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge
I have 5 piercings, but no tatoos.
I love to travel, and have been lucky enough to travel to every continent in the world.
The farthest I have been from home is Iceland.
My iphone is my friend!

I was a bit sceptical at first. Not another website to keep abreast of. But so far I love it. There is so much inspiration, and it's a wonderful way to pin items you have seen around the internet world, that you want to keep track of.

Back to Normal Broadcasting!

We're back from holiday. Don't think I mentioned it before we headed off. We had planned to drive to the Gold Coast in Queensland, but with all the bad weather, there have been multiple road closures, so it just wasn't worth taking the risk.

We flew to Brisbane instead, and had a great day with my brother Matt before driving down to Hope Island.

It was a great week! Lots of sun, lots of fun and lots of action packed days. We got to meet family we hadn't yet had the pleasure of meeting, Emma got to play with a seal, and we watched a movie while swimming at Wet N Wild.

I'm feeling like I need a holiday now! Isn't that the way! And I think it will take a day or two to the washing and ironing done!

Oh well....off to dream about the next holiday. I'll be back with pictures laters.

Queensland Floods!

I have sat in front of the TV today, in absolute awe at the ferosity of the floods in Queensland. As of today, 9 people have lost their lives, and 59 people are still missing. My heart goes out to all the people who have lost family, friends, their homes and their livelihoods.

This video shows just a little of the devastation in Toowoomba.

My brother lives in Brisbane, right near the river, and is currently on evacuation watch. They are expecting the river to reach over 6 metres in the next 24hours, and over 9000 homes to be flood damaged. I hope he stays safe.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this incredible natural disaster.

In a post a couple of days ago, I said our names were going to be up in lights, as part of the John Baldessari project at the Sydney Festival.

We were all crouched around the laptop, waiting very patiently! Well sure enough, at 9:40:20PM tonight, our names were flashed across the wall of the Australian Museum. Lucky I was able to grab a screen shot!

Abbaworld!

Aidan has been volunteering at AbbaWorld at the Powerhouse Museum, so we took the chance to go in and have a look around.

Em's cousin Olivia was staying and they both had a blast getting up on the stage performing with the hologram puppets.

We also had our pictures added to one of the album covers, got to sing karaoke with the group, re-mix some of their albums, and do some quizzes. It was very interactive, and the girls had heaps of fun!

As part of the Sydney Festival this year, they have been asking for people to register to have their names put up in lights. It's a John Baldessari project, with 100,000 people involved. If you are selected, your name will be streamed across the wall of The Australian Museum for your 15 glittering seconds of glory.

Here's the wordle of my blog! Interesting that the word year is so dominent. I wonder if that indicates it's going to be my YEAR! I hope so!

It's been 20 degrees today, and was even cold enough for me to put a cardigan around my shoulders. What's with this weather. No wonder there is so much sickness around. Too hot one day, too cold the next....hmmmmm!

We headed out for lunch today at Macarthur. Aidan got a JB HiFi gift card for Christmas, and wanted to see if he could spend some of it. I took the chance to head off to Mum & Dad's for a visit. Nice to catch up with them.

Well today is officially the last holiday day of the Christmas period for us. Some offices will be re-opening tomorrow, and that means more traffic on the road. I've enjoyed the summer road hiatus. It has only taken a 20 minute journey to work instead of the usual 1 hour 10 minutes. And the office has been so quiet, I've managed to get more work done than I expected.

We still have another 4 weeks of school holidays though. So things won't actually get back to normal for me for a while. Emma is off to a 3 day Tennis Camp with her girlfriend on Wednesday. She's really looking forward to it.

I am already behind in my scrapping commitments, so I best go do something!

It's hot in Sydney!

WOW...the New Year has started with some incredibly hot weather. We hit 40 degrees celsius yesterday, and today was 34. But I guess that's what you should expect for the middle of summer! So can you guess what we've been doing?

Yep...swimming. Even the dog likes a dip to cool off. And he's quite used to doing a bit of boogy-boarding.

Hello, welcome 2011~! I have a great feeling that 2011 is going to be a good one. It surely can't be any worse than 2010. We had a struggling year through 2010...in many ways. But I have positive feelings about this year. It's going to be a good one. Let's hope so anyway.

And with the New Year comes a new look blog. Much simpler and cleaner. It's still a work in progress, but it's getting there.

I've decided to try a Project 52 project this year. My Project 365 last year was a complete disaster. I didn't even get past January...LOL! I think the thought of having to keep up to date with a daily picture just got away from me. A weekly project is much more manageable.

I've signed up for 52 Inspirations at OScraps, and I'm also following the Project Love, Me at Scrap Orchard. Both are different, and I'm hoping to find the combination of the two works for me.

I've learnt long ago that setting a NY resolution is not for me, as I never manage to stick with them. So as the new year begins, I thought I'd document some of my goals and aspirations for the year ahead.

Complete my 52 week projects to the end of the year
Make a concerted effort to blog more. I can't say it will be everyday, but at least weekly
Learn to use Photoshop Cs5 and Illustrator (which I've had on my laptop for nearly a year now)
Dabble in Digital Designing. I don't plan on selling, but would like to offer some freebies on my blog
Buy less scrapping supplies, and use more of what I've got
Make a healthier me - make better food choices and get up and move more
De-clutter at home. I often feel like the 'stuff' is taking over our lives. I live with two hoarders! I used to be one myself...but three in the family is at least two too many...LOL!
Write more!
Not be so concerned with what others think! I often feel like I am trying to please others above myself
Spend less time on the computer, and more quality time with the family
Visit more of our beautiful city. I think they call it a stay-cation!

I've been reading Ali Edward's blog, and she has a wonderful post about focussing on a word to live this year by.

My significant word for 2011 is SIMPLIFY!
It's all encompassing....from the things I do, to the way I live, to how I think and feel! I can't wait to see how this word has an impact on my life this year.

Hello scrappers,
It's that time of the month again, we're off on another DSC blog train.

It's winter here in OZ, and I'm really feeling the cold this year, so what better way to warm up than to think of heading to the beach. hello! It's blog train time again...

It's been so long since I've posted, my poor bloggie is feeling rather neglected. Life has been busy in one way or another. We've been on holiday to the UK to spend a belated Christmas with Aidan's family. Aidan has been in (and finished) another play. Emma has been busy with school and activities. And I've been, well I've been doing all the mummy and wifey things that need doing to support them....as well as scrapping when I've had the time.

Anyway. It's time for another Digital Scrap Cafe Blog Train. I've missed them....hope you have too.

It's Australia Day - the celebration of the day that Captain Arthur Phillip first landed at Sydney Cove back in 1788. We are heading out for a lovely pub lunch at one of my favourite pubs - The Camden Valley Inn. Whatever you are doing, I hope you have a great day.

i got layout of the day at inspiration lane ...

Just popped into Inspiration Lane, as I haven't been into the forum there for ages, and found out one of my recent layouts got Layout of the Day on 16Jan10.

I had so much fun making this layout from the gorgeous kit Cozy Sunday Afternoon by Inkin' Creations. The kit just called out for me to do this type of layout. It's not my norm, but I'm really happy with the result. You can pick up the kit at Inspiration Lane for the bargain price of $3.39 at the moment.

ah...the new year can start...

Boy...what a way to start the New Year.

As I posted below, we headed off to the south coast to my mum and dad's house for New Year. We had a fun New Year's Eve, and a great New Years Day....then on 02 January, dad decided to have a heart attack on us!

So since then we've been travelling between 2 hospitals, he's had an angiogram, had a stent and balloon inserted into two arteries, and is now out of hospital and recouperating at my house in Sydney.

And to top it all off, Emma was so panicked by it all, that she had a stress induced major Asthma attack and ended up in the hospital on Sunday night (just as dad was being transported to Sydney to be operated on).

I'm shattered! But I'm pleased to say that dad is doing remarkably well, and will be heading back home to his house on the weekend. Em is OK as well, and is having a sleepover and her friends house.

So now my Year can start! LOL!

goodbye 2009 ...

It's been a busy couple of weeks. We had planned a holiday to the UK to spend Christmas with Aidan's family. We haven't been back in over 4 years. But the plans all fell apart with the threatened BA cabin crew strike. We had to make a call at the last minute to postpone our trip until 2010. But as nothing was planned for Christmas here, we made the decision to travel to Hong Kong for Christmas. We had a blast, although it wasn't the peaceful Christmas we had planned. Some photos will follow.

Today we are off to my parents place by the beach on the South Coast of NSW. The relaxing break will do us all the world of good. The chance to unwind, and spend some more family time together is always good.

I've decided to do the Project 365 in 2010. It's all about taking a photo-a-day, to capture the 'details' of your life...rather than just the BIG moments. So I'm getting myself prepared. Wish me luck on the journey. I have a separate blog where I am going to document the year ahead.

So as I reflect back on 2009, we have had a fantastic year. Em has had a great year at school, culminating with being awarded the principal's Award for Continuous Outstanding Achievement on the last day of school. One child is chosen from each year, and our girl was the winner for Year 3. We were so proud of her. Aidan follwed his thespian dreams, and had 2 parts in the play Arsenic and Old Lace, performing for 3 months at the Cronulla Arts Theatre. And I have had my dream of being published come to life, with 2 layouts published in Scrapbooking Memories this year, with more to come in 2010. And above all, we are all healthy and happy! What more can you ask for!

To all our family and friends, we wish you joy and happiness throughout 2010. Here's to a wonderful year ahead.
